Playdate Party

HB Hazelbrook Farm recently hosted a Playdate of their own in the Mill Theatre in Dundrum Town Centre to launch this website. We had some great entertainment in place for the children, including face painters, a caricaturist, some arts and crafts as well as a musical workshop. All of the entertainment provided lots of inspiration for parents when planning their own Playdates.

And of course we had plenty of delicious HB Hazelbrook Farm snacks for all to enjoy including ice cream cones and smoothies, wafer sandwiches and jelly & ice cream. The grown ups had some more sophisticated snacks to choose from including crepes served with HB Hazelbrook Farm ice cream as well as ice cream coffee.

All the parents present loved the idea of having a website with ideas to inspire them when organising Playdates. They were especially excited about our Playdate Chat page and thought it would be a great place to share more ideas and experiences with each other. Some parents highlighted the difficulty of meeting people to arrange Playdates with in their local area when their children are of preschool age. The forum is a great place to get to know other parents in your area and potentially meet up for a “date”.

Clinical Psychologist David Coleman spoke to the parents present about the importance of Playdates and also spoke to parents individually about concerns that they had.

“It really helps when you know the parent of the child who is coming over for the date. That way you are more likely to be aware of their child’s fads, fussiness or importantly allergies. If you don’t know the other parent, then invite them to come with their child on the first date and to stay for a cup of tea, a scoop of HB ice-cream or both. Their presence will help their child to settle and will let you get to know their child better.”

Website contributors and celebrity mums Lorraine Keane and Vivienne Connolly helped us to celebrate the launch of the website and enjoyed all of the entertainment with their own children. Amelia and Romy Devlin and Ben and Katie Dunne.

Lorraine said:

“It can be difficult to serve snacks at Play Dates that the children enjoy but that have some nutritional benefits. HB Hazelbrook Farm Ice cream is a great compromise – children love the delicious flavours and I love the fact that it contains fresh milk. It’s also a great treat for me as it’s surprisingly lower in fat than you might think, with less than 5g fat per serving.”

Vivienne revealed the favourite fun games for Playdates in the Dunne household:

“Katie is a great fan of story time. She and her Play Mates all have their favourite books and they love looking at the pictures and making comments on the characters and their activities. Ben and his friends are football crazy and enjoy nothing more than spending time in the garden honing their ball skills. They love it when I join in and take great pleasure in “tackling” mum! Of course, they all love the delicious HB Hazelbrook Farm Snacks I serve up as their afternoon snack.”

Commenting on the launch of the website, Sarah Hogan, Brand Manager, HB ice cream added:

“HB Hazelbrook Farm has been a firm favourite with families in Ireland since 1926 so it’s only natural that it’s a popular snack for Playdates. We are delighted to be launching www.hbplaydates.ie, a valuable resource for parents when it comes to tackling the challenges that Playdates present.”
