HB Playdates » Fun Food » Recipes To Do Together

Kitchen Playdate activities for 3-6 year olds are often short and sweet due to their limited attention span so small tasks are perfect. Children learn about cooking by watching, feeling, smelling, tasting and having hands on experiences.
Keep the kids back from anything hot or sharp but just letting 3-6 years old help, even if it's only being assigned the job of adding a pinch of this or a dollop of that, will teach them a lot.
Ice cream Sandwiches
- 1 packet of large cookies (plain, chocolate chip or your favourite biscuits)
- HB Vanilla Originals ice cream 1 pint brick
- Chocolate sprinkles, chopped nuts, or puffed rice
- Freezer paper
Directions
- Scoop a generous amount of HB Vanilla ice cream and sandwich between two large cookies.
- Roll the ice cream sandwich edges in the chocolate or nuts.
- Wrap each sandwich in freezer paper and freeze

Deep Fried Ice Cream Balls:
- 1 pint HB Vanilla Originals ice cream
- 12 Hob-nob™ biscuits, finely crushed
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 2 tablespoon caster sugar
- 1 large or 2 small eggs, beaten
- Scoop out small balls of ice cream.
- Mix the finely crushed biscuits with sugar and cinnamon
- Roll the ice cream balls in mix to cover them and let them in the freezer for 30 minutes.
- Beat the egg(s).
- Dip the coated balls in the egg, and then again in the biscuit mix for a second coating. Leave in the freezer again for 30 minutes.
- Heat a pan with some sunflower oil until very hot.
- Deep fry the ice cream balls, a few at a time, for one minute, or until they go crispy on the outside.
- They will remain frozen in the middle but will start to soften on the outside.
- Make sure that you fry only a few at a time, so that the temperature of the pan doesn't cool too much, as the balls won't crisp quickly enough.
- Serve with fruit and a dollop of cream.
